Hegira- any flight or journey to a more desirable or congenial place

Snafu- a badly confused or ridiculously muddled situation

Bajada- an alluvial plain formed at the base of a mountain by the coalescing of several alluvial fans

Nexus- the core or center, as of a matter or situation.

Harangues- a scolding or a long or intense verbal attack; diatribe.

Pseudonym- a fictitious name used by an author to conceal his or her identity; pen name

Greenhorn- an untrained or inexperienced person

Harrowing- extremely disturbing or distressing; grievous

Unhelmed- Divested or deprived of the helm or helmet

Plodding- to walk heavily or move laboriously; trudge

Circuitous- roundabout; not direct

Granary- a storehouse or repository for grain, esp. after it has been threshed or husked

Veracity- habitual observance of truth in speech or statement; truthfulness
